(top, left) On a polystyrene hemisphere (diameter 16cm), little cork hemispheres in 3 sizes were stacked top-down, thus applying the Dislodgement model.
(right) On a flat plane, hemispheres were stacked from the center outwards.
(bottom, left) In Fimo modeling clay, a long string (with a prepared pattern in it) with slowly increasing diameter was cut into ~180 slices. These were stacked from the center outward. By careful flattening, the honeycomb pattern arose spontaneously.
